I’m a huge fan of Retro Gaming and reminiscing those many trips in the 90’s to the Arcade centers with bags of quarters saved up in the piggy bank. When I saw Arcade1Up announce they were releasing a 30th Anniversary Simpsons Edition arcade cabinet, a huge wave of nostalgia hit me and I pulled the trigger once I saw these units go on sale.
For those new to the DIY Arcade Cabinet kits, Arcade1Up is the most popular manufacturer that makes 3/4-scale replica arcade cabinet kits with licensed games that ship straight to your door or available for pickup at the major retailers. These kits start at around $200 and contain everything you need to build your arcade system which include: IKEA-like DIY cabinet boards, hardware, joysticks, buttons, lcd screen, PCB computer board, speakers, emulator, and licensed games.
Check out the below video showing a hyper lapse assembly of the Arcade1Up Simpsons cabinet which took a little over 1 hour with the little one supervising 🙂
Stay tuned for my next projects which include hacking/modding the cabinet to launch more games and also getting a real coin dispenser to work with this arcade cabinet.
